What is asked for before a fitting date is agreed?
A name, an address for the rooms, a telephone number and an e-mail address come in with the enquiry on the fitting line. Those four are what it takes to arrange a measure and to reach somebody on the day.
What does the measure add to the sheet?
The measure fills the rest of the page. Room dimensions taken wall to wall, then again across bays, recesses and chimney breasts. The door and threshold details, the state of the base under the old covering and the covering under consideration. Access, parking and the route in go onto the same sheet, so the van is loaded for the way the goods will be carried. Stairs are written up riser by riser. All of it describes rooms and materials rather than the people in them.
What is kept once the floor is down?

How long does the sheet stay on file?
It is held for six years from the end of the accounting year the invoice falls in. That is the window a tax record, a guarantee query or a matching batch for a later repair can be answered from, and it is what the tax rules ask a small company to keep. Who else sees any of it?
An accountant reads the invoice line while the books are made up, then HMRC reads the same line if the records are examined. How does someone see what is held?
The fitting day is the copy route. The record is copied onto the reverse of the job sheet and handed over as the work is signed off, so the drawing, the covering, the batch and the quantities travel home with the customer on the day. A request made later by e-mail is answered the same way, from the file the copy came out of.
How is a correction made?
A correction is written straight onto that sheet while the fitter is still there, then it is carried across to the file it came from. Anything that arrives afterwards is put in writing to the fitting line, then the file is amended and a fresh copy goes back out. Where the record is finished with before the six years are up, it is erased on request, apart from the invoice line the tax rules hold in place.
